Last Shovelfull

Our First Shaft  This was the last shovelfull of dirt to be thrown out of the shaft by hand.  About eight feet deep.  We had to then place a hand winch over the shaft and I had to wind the bucket of dirt up and pull it away from the hole (being careful not to drop it on Bob's head) drag it away and empty it.   Naturally I was looking forward to getting to the required depth,  so we could put up the automatic hoist.  This particular hole we took down to twenty-four feet.
